Located in the neighbourhood of Winston Heights lies Prairie Sky is Calgary’s only cohousing community. The community was originally built in 2003 and houses 18 different units. The residents of Prairie Sky proudly base their principles and community foundation in respect, sustainability and commitment.

Prairie Sky was built intentionally to maximise community involvement and connections amongst neighbours. The 18 units surround a lush and cozy central courtyard. With a vegetable garden and beautiful tree-lined pathways, residents can also enjoy the playground and an outdoor fire pit without losing sight of their unit.

There is also a common house that encourages neighbours to prepare and enjoy weekly dinners as well as engage in community projects and just get to know each other generally. There’s plenty of shared amenities including an underground, heated parkade with plenty of bike storage, a workshop, exercise room, a guest room and shared office space.

The current members of Prairie Sky are multigenerational with plenty of folks from all walks of life. But they all share a single goal in their community. It is common to have your neighbour send you an email asking for a favour. Whether it’s depositing a cheque at the bank or simply borrowing some sugar, residents are happy to help their neighbours. In 17 years, 12 of the original owners remain in Prairie Sky with many members not planning to leave any time soon.

There is an upcoming sale in the spring of 2021 in Prairie Sky. An amazing 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom townhouse will be on the market soon, looking for the right people to fill it and embrace the cohousing community.
